In my quest for the perfect point & shoot for me, I purchased the S95. I also own the Sony HX5v, the Sony HX9v, and the Canon S80.

I had the Canon SX210, which I loved except, sold it because the video was weaker (not HD)than I wanted it to be.

My problem with the S95 is that it really does not have a good wide angle. I know the spec’s say it does a 28mm, but it does not do a good wide angle and does not even perform like the S80 in wide angle.

I take my camera’s out with me and take pictures. I wanted to take a couple of pictures of a Nissan dealership in Washington the other day, and the S95 was unable to get the complete bldg in the picture, or even half of the bldg., as did the HX5v and the S80. Am I going to sell the S95?, No, I love this camera. The size, the picture quality, and the performance is great except for that issue. The video (HD)is not the best in the lot, but it’s in the running, and plenty good enough for when I have it out.

I really think that most of the complaints on point & shoots are from not knowing how to work the camera’s though. Wide angle on the S95 is not a user issue though.

For the money, the size, the performance, I would never get rid of the S95, unless I could only have one camera, which is not the case. The S95 runs close with the Panasonic LX5 in pic quality, except that the panasonic probably does wide angle just fine. I’ve never been able to play with the panasonic. Other camera’s of interest would be the Olympus XZ1 and the Nikon Coolpix P300. But they’re alot bigger than the S95. I could easily own the canon SX230, which is the SX210 with HD video and GPS. The S95′s wide angle problem is the only thing I can think of that I can really fault it for. – By Ernest F. Carneau “EFC”

This is a great camera. I bought it refurbished, and it was like new. Has all the manual controls and a few very nice features. Fits into my pocket, yet takes great pictures. Looks like it’s especially famous for the low-light pictures it takes. I also like the fact that it can be set to snap a picture when the subject smiles I am yet to find any significant flaws to its design. – By Matvey B.A.

I have been on a few trips abroad with my Olympus E-510. Lugging a DSLR around can be a pain. I bought the S95 just before another trip last fall and took both with me. I found the manual controls easy to work with. I never shoot flash so I was amazed at the low light photos. I did have to send it back under warrantee at one point but it has been going strong ever since and I am not taking any stars away for that issue. The last trip I left the E-510 at home and didn’t miss the weight or bulk and I don’t feel I missed any photo ops as a result. Each camera has its place, the S95 I can carry every day and it is not a bother. – By J. Harrington

Great little powerhouse. The flash is in the wrong place because i always want to hold the camera there but i’ll get used to it. the mic picks up wind noise but i guess that’s a common problem.
All in all it’s a joy to use. If you are looking for something to use in Auto all the time don’t waste your money. If you like experimenting at least in P mode … go for it. – By Photo Joe “Joe Scanlon”
